MANILA, Philippines — Arvie Bringas made the go-ahead basket with under a minute left to lift the Tabogon Voyagers over Tubigon Bohol Mariners, 102-99, in the Visayas leg of the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Tuesday night at Civic Center in Alcantara, Cebu.

Bringas scored on the post to give the Voyagers a 101-99 edge with 56 seconds remaining before a crucial steal by Jethro Sombero in the ensuing play led to a free throw by Joemari Lacastesantos for a 102-99 lead 20 seconds later.

The former Far Eastern University bruiser finished with 24 points and eight rebounds while Sombero added 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Voyagers, who won their first game after dropping their opener against MJAS Zenith-Talisay City.

Bohol, which dropped to 0-2, still had a chance to force overtime but Mac Montilla couldn’t convert on a couple of potential game-tying triples.

“The play was to go in the post because we noticed that they couldn’t stop him,” said Tabogon head coach Expedito Delos Santos on going to Bringas on the deciding play. “I’m happy because he’s one of the veterans of the group.”

Meanwhile, Reed Juntilla gave ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City a much-needed boost en route to a 67-57 win over the Dumaguete Warriors.

Juntilla scored eight of his 12 points in a crucial stretch in the third quarter that allowed Lapu-Lapu City to take control of the game and come away with its second win in as many outings.

“We really rely on Reed (Juntilla) for his scoring,” said ARQ head coach Francis Auquico in Filipino. “I’m glad that he delivered when we needed him.”

Ferdinand Lusdoc also shone as he led Lapu-Lapu City in scoring with 14 points while Jerick Cañada collected nine points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Nikki Monteclaro hit six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points for Dumaguete, which dropped to 0-2.
