HOOVER, Alabama—–No. 2 seed Auburn and No. 5 Mississippi State both won a pair of matches Saturday to advance to the final round of the SEC Women’s Golf Championship at Greystone’s Legacy Course.
The match play final will be televised live on the SEC Network at 7:30 a.m. CT.
The tournament began on Wednesday with the first of three days of stroke play. Eight teams advanced to the match play portion of the championship, which began Saturday.
Two of the top four seeds dropped their quarterfinal matches to begin the day Saturday. Alabama defeated No. 2 seed South Carolina 3-1-1, while Mississippi State defeated No. 4 Ole Miss 3-2. No. 1 LSU beat eighth-seeded Arkansas 3-2-0, and No. 3 Auburn beat sixth seeded Vanderbilt 3-1-1.
Mississippi State then defeated LSU 3-1-1 in the semifinals to reach the match play final for the first time, while Auburn defeated Alabama by a 3-1-1 score as well. Mississippi State has already assured itself the highest SEC Championship finish in program history. Auburn is seeking its 10th SEC title and first since 2012, while Mississippi State will be playing for its first SEC crown.
This marks the ninth consecutive year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be contested at the Greystone Golf and Country Club just outside of Birmingham.
