A CAFE sparked outrage over a receipt describing customers as “two very annoying Asians” after the owner shared a snap of it online.
The eatery in Brisbane, Australia, found itself under fire after the boss bizarrely praised his staff in a Snapchat post featuring the offending message.
According to local media, the cafe’s owner shared the photo captioning it: “OMG I love my staff”, followed by three laughing emojis.
Brisbane local Alec Madara said he contacted the cafe owner, in a series of Instagram posts, calling the incident “absolutely appalling.”
When a member of staff at the cafe confronted the manager over his “unprofessional and inappropriate behaviour”, his response was to “get a grip” and that “it was just a joke”, the Daily Mail reported.
His post reads: “The first photo was posted by the manager and owner on his Snapchat story which is shared publicly.
“I called out the behaviour because it is completely unacceptable in this day and age to refer to clients in this way.
“Anyone in a management role knows this would be completely unacceptable.
“Referring to someone’s race after negatively describing them is a dangerously thin line to walk, and many would say it’s racism.
“It’s also potentially perpetuating negative connotations and racism towards Asian people, despite being unacceptable language to use to describe a customer, regardless of race. “
According to Yahoo News the cafe’s manager issued an apology statement on Saturday, describing the incident as “truly unacceptable”.
His post read :”Many of us know the people involved in this incident. They have in the past done incredible things for our community.
“However they have made a very ignorant mistake. A mistake they must learn from, apologise and educate themselves on.”
